Scientific Research: The Science of Sleep Motivation
In a broad sense, the unconscious is the area of the mind, which functions without our awareness of its operations. A great deal of the brain functions in this manner, leaving a small portion or percentage active within our scope of awareness. Mapping of the brain has determined that the conscious state is a function of the reticular formation, a network of cells found within the brainstem. A majority of memory is stored within the unconscious. Human memory can retain a limitless amount of information from events to facts and figures. Event memory and Human memory appear to have residence within the hippocampus and neo-cortex, the gray outer layer of the brain. Event memory has an unlimited capacity for images of past events. The unconscious has among it’s duties the regulation of the autonomic nervous system, operating and balancing the glands of the body, heart, lungs and other organs, visual centers and blood. Emotions and attitudes have their center in the unconscious. Most of the centers of emotion are located in the limbic system, at the top of the brainstem, and also in the hypothalamus. Creativity also has its seat in the unconscious, guided by the right hemisphere of the brain, while language and reason reside in the left hemisphere.
The unconscious region of the brain has been likened unto an iceberg where the tip above the water represents the conscious or wakened state and the enormous formation below the water line representing the unconscious, all below our awareness. Throughout the era of discovery into the unconscious, Scientists and scholars alike have sought to describe the nature of the unconscious with Sigmond Freud’s model of the id, ego and superego and Carl Gustav Jung’s collective unconscious to Victor Frankl founder of the Third Viennese school of Psychiatry who described “that we are not mere victims of instinct, but rather creatures of choice and response”. While each of these scholars did not agree as to the exact nature of the unconscious they did agree that the answer to changing some behaviors begins within the unconscious. It is within the unconscious that feelings of inferiority, poor self-esteem and a general lack of confidence are found. Answers to changing these feelings came from Emile Coue’ (1926), known as the “Father of Applied Conditioning”. Coue’, a French Pharmacist and Psychologist founded a clinic for treating illness by applied medicine and suggestion who discovered that the “miracle” of suggestion could produce cures from depression to paralysis of limbs. It was Coue’ who discovered that when the will comes in conflict with the imagination, the imagination would win. He writes, “Free will, that we insist on so fiercely, always gives way to the imagination. This is an absolute rule”. Coue’ provided several memorable illustrations. For example, when learning to ride a bicycle, the fear of running into an object makes one ride directly into it. The insomniac who is bent on falling asleep tosses and turns restlessly; yet if he resigns himself to staying awake all night, he soon falls to sleep. Coue’ described the ease with which one might easily stroll along a wooden plank 30 feet long by 12 inches wide if placed on the ground, but raise it to 300 feet in the air and the visualization of falling would cause the person to fall. The Law of Concentrated attention states that whenever attention is concentrated on an idea over and over(repetition), it spontaneously tends to realize itself. This law of Concentrated Attention is the pivotal point to making the case that properly applied suggestion can make not only an impact but one that can create a path to prosperity and success. Research has given some answers that were not available to Freud, Jung, Frankl, Baudoin, and Coue’ or authors such as Napoleon Hill, Maxwell Maltz or Joseph Murphy. Hypnopaedia is the relatively new science of sleep learning and has been developed primarily by Soviet scientists and the London Institute of Sleep learning. Under certain conditions as described by F. Rubin, Scientific Advisor to the Sleep-learning Association in London, sleep-learning is indeed possible. Neurostar Research considered the evidence for sleep-learning and the associated research and conducted several studies in 1985-1991 to further the emerging science of sleep-motivation employing similar techniques as used in the clinical studies of the London Institute. In 1992, the first programs were produced with astonishing results. Testing focused on salespeople in the fields of insurance, vitamin sales, and real estate with activity levels increasing 37% on the low side to as high as 212% with corresponding income levels increasing as much as 640%. One notable case was Jon F. whose income climbed from $28,000 in 1993 to $256,000 in 1995 and has since made over $2.5 million in commission income. The Cycles of Sleep Your subjective mind performs its highest functions when your objective senses are in abeyance. In a word, it is that intelligence which makes itself manifest when the objective mind is suspended or in a sleepy or drowsy state”-Dr. Joseph Murphy, DRS, Ph.D, DD, LLD While deep sleep is unsuitable, two phases of sleep have been determined to be receptive to suggestion: the decent into deep sleep, which occurs after going to bed and paradoxical sleep or the emergence from deep sleep. A very simple way of securing this(impregnation of the subconscious mind)is to condense the idea which is to be the object of suggestion, to sum it up in a brief phrase which can be readily graven on the memory, and to repeat it over and over again as a lullaby”-Charles Baudoin, Professor at the Rousseau Institute of Psychotherapy, 1910 While there are those who paint the unconscious as wide open all night, research shows this not to be the case. Observing the requirements and following protocol in sleep motivation is critical in order to bring about positive results. A few requirements can be mentioned: There must be no background noise, perfect audibility at low volumes, clear utterance of speech, a firm (but not emotional) voice, and the communicative aspect of recording should be impersonal. The delivery is to be precise with concepts or “units” of a specific duration with silence following. Sleep motivation should not be confused with subliminal taped programs, see the difference. Humans are highly suggestible; moods are affected by the comments of others, and also by misguided thoughts. Suggestion and the effects of sleep-motivation prove remarkably effective in improving attitudes, promoting confidence, and enhancing self-esteem and confidence. There are six programs that comprise the “Attitude determines Action” success pack; Self-image, Self-confidence, Health, Stress Reduction, Time mastery, and Organization. The Wealth and prosperity program is also currently available. Additional programs are presently being tested and may be available in the future.

“When your mind thinks correctly, when you understand the truth, when the thoughts deposited in your mind are constructive, harmonious, and peaceful, the magic working power of your subconscious will respond and bring about harmonious conditions, agreeable surroundings and the best of everything”
